I have conducted tutorials, practical and lab sessions except lecture. I enjoy teaching the year 3 students as they are quite a nice bunch; more mature and sensible. Year 3 modules are very applications based and thus closest to my heart being so relative to my previous work experiences. As for the year 2 students, they generally emit higher background noise level ;o) and need me to remind them not to be too overwhelm. Having said that, they are still considered nice students.
One of the learning I have is that teaching can be a very draining activity as one not only has to talk almost non-stop for 1 to 2 hrs, need to also engage the students and be on your toes during the show time. Not just that, the work and effort behind each lesson which we call it lesson preparation is definitely time consuming too for a first-timer like me.
As mentioned, this being the first 2 weeks of the semester, students are also trying to know me better. I have been getting a few questions and remarks like
'Miss Tan, how old are you?'
'Teacher, you really have 2 kids har?'
'Wow, this teacher quite fierce hor'
Yes, students address me Miss Tan, Mdm or Teacher and to be honest, I am still not used to it.
I hope the rest of the weeks will be smooth sailing and fun!
